VOORHEESVILLE -- Donald Warren `Smitty` Smith, 83, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 20, 2000 at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home. Don was a lifelong resident of the Altamont area and was a graduate of the former Altamont High School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Don was a retiree from the General Electric Company, where he worked for 53 years. While at GE, Don worked as a machinist, an experimental engineer on the early US space program, and at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory.
